On the fourth day of the multinational Exercise Brave Warrior 2024, an Italian rifle company of the NATO Forward Land Forces Battle Group (NATO FLF BG) carried out a live fire exercise (LFX) with armored Centauro Reconnaissance Anti-Tank Vehicles, towed 155mm FH-70 field howitzers, 120mm heavy mortars and Iveco LMV Light Multirole Vehicles as infantry fighting vehicles. In the afternoon, the main role in the Bakony Hills was being played by the Hungarian soldiers and their anti-armor Carl Gustaf M4 recoilless rifles, as the personnel declared to the FLF rifle company are continuously training for the Combat Readiness Evaluation of Land Headquarters and Units (CREVAL) validation exercise.

Aircraft Arrive at Pápa in Several Waves

Exercise Swift Response, which puts NATO’s eastern flank in the centre, is part of Exercise Steadfast Defender 2024. At the forefront of Swift Response are those defence capabilities which help the NATO alliance system repel possible aggression from the East. Within the framework of the exercise, German and Dutch troops of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-ITA) arrive at Pápa to participate in an airborne operation in Romania. Our crew captured the arrival of the aircraft at the HDF 47th Airbase.

Farewell to the air service

After more than 40 years of service as aircrew member, Senior Warrant Officer István Molnár – an airman of the HDF 86th Helicopter Wing – took off on his last flight in EUFOR Operation Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The seasoned Mi-17 aircrew member will soon retire in Szolnok, Hungary. Following his last flight in the mission, the personnel of the EUFOR Aviation Detachment received and greeted István “Moles” Molnár – with a water jet, a memorial certificate and a friendly goodbye hug.

HDF begin exhuming more than a thousand former prisoners of war

”Out of those deceased in the former Baja POW camp, 1023 German and Hungarian soldiers and laborers were reinterred in three large mass graves opposite the barracks in 1948. Exhumation work in the area has already begun” – wrote recently Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky on his social media profile.

This year too, the MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) capability of the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina is being provided by the nation having the command of EUFOR Operation Althea, thus in 2024, by Hungary. Within this framework, the Hungarian personnel serving there guarantee air medical evacuation capabilities with the help of H145M helicopters, while air transport capabilities with a Mi-17 helicopter in Major General Dr. László Sticz’s year of command.

“Esterházy” Hussar Regiment Celebrated in Metz
