The DEFEA International Defence & Security Exhibition Athens is a biannually organized, prestigious international defence industry event in the heart of the Mediterranean basin, where the biggest Greek and international companies exhibit their latest land, naval, space industry and cyber security defence systems.

Altogether 36 countries are representing themselves at this year’s exhibition, and 16 nations, including Hungary, are present with their own pavilions. Speaking about the Hungarian displays at the stand of VEX Hungarian Defence Export Agency Ltd, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that the main priority of the Ltd is to help the Hungarian defence industry companies in exporting their products.

“These modern, innovative solutions contribute to a comprehensive reform of the armed forces which the government of Hungary is implementing to develop the Hungarian Defence Forces into a national force that is able to maintain a credible deterrence posture while effectively reacting to the challenges of the changing security environment” – added the minister.

Prior to paying a visit to the DEFEA exhibition, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky laid the wreath of remembrance at the only Hungarian war grave in Greece. Speaking about it, he recalled that as a result of a long research work, the experts of the MoD Military History Institute and Museum recently identified in Athens the final resting place of Hussar Lajos Häuszer (Ludwig Häuszer), the orderly of the Imperial and Royal 8th Hussar Regiment. Lajos Häuszer passed away in the capital city of Greece on 5 December 1915, and was buried there the next day. Following the identification, the orderly’s grave has been renovated in cooperation with the defence attaché of the Hungarian Embassy in Athens.

“This is the only Hungarian war grave in Greece, so it has special significance to Hungarian military history and war grave care” – said the minister of defence.
