The combined reserve Exercise Moonstar 2025 is currently being conducted with the participation of close to 150 Hungarian, Polish and Slovak reservists at Vay Ádám Training Base in Hajdúhadház. The objective is to achieve that members of the training audience can act in a coordinated way, while developing their tactical skills and ability of cooperation and familiarizing themselves with each other’s procedures.

In the first week of the exercise, equipped with the MILES system, the soldiers are practicing how to defeat small enemy forces, and executing the tasks of occupying areas and patrol bases and carrying out march security. Several reservists among the participants previously took part in the country defence Exercise Adaptive Hussars 2025 as well, and are now demonstrating their preparedness again.

Reserve Warrant Officer Patrik Ardelean, a soldier of the 3rd Territorial Defence Battalion, HDF 2nd Territorial Defence Regiment already decided during basic training to gain experience in the widest range of tasks possible.

“I’m very pleased to be able to participate in this exercise, too, after Exercise Adaptive Hussars 2025. I work as an entrepreneur in civilian life, thus I can organize my work so that besides it, I can test myself in such a noble vocation. In addition, I feel that soldering gives me the kind of plus that sport had earlier meant to me. I used to and still play football, which is my hobby even today, too, so teamwork has always been an important part of my life. Service as a reservist allows me to rediscover that cohesion and teamwork that I have always looked for. The only thing I regret now is that I didn’t enlist earlier” – said the reserve warrant officer.

Running between 7 and 23 November, the Live Firing Tactical Training (LFTT) Exercise Moonstar 2025 is being conducted in the field, with the participation of Hungarian, Polish and Slovak territorial defence forces. Beyond developing the capabilities of territorial defence forces, the exercise also provides an opportunity for joint thinking, sharing the lessons learned and strengthening harmony among nations. To the reservists, exercises like this one are the most valuable means of gaining experience, as they can assess their knowledge and skills, expand their experiences and show their dedication to the service of the homeland in real-world circumstances.
