“It Is Fantastic to Represent the Country!”

Hungary will be represented by 9 athletes and 11 accompaniers at the competition in Italy in March. I wish good luck to every participant!” wrote MoD State Secretary for Sport Dr. Ádám Schmidt on his social media page on Monday, 24 February.
It is fantastic to be an Olympian and represent the country, said President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok in the Sándor Palace at the oath-taking of the Hungarian team to participate in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in March. “I am glad that your example also contributes to the Hungarian people loving to do sports. I am glad that you show others how great sporting can be”, said the head of state, who thinks that the athletes can be proud of themselves and their family, coaches and fellow athletes can also be proud of them.
Lajos Lengyel, President of the Hungarian Special Olympics Federation, told us that Hungary will take part in the competition with a small but very strong team from 8 to 15 March in Turin and Sestriere. He added that nearly 1700 athletes from 105 countries will participate in the winter world games; the Hungarian athletes will compete in Alpine skiing, snowshoeing, short track speed skating and figure skating. Following the greetings, the oath was said by Levente Szuper, former national hockey goalkeeper, and Hajnalka Vivien Kollarics, snowshoer.
