The agreement concluded with the Swedish defence minister on the joint development of Gripen fighter aircraft can be called historic – this was what Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced in his video published on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that our Gripens – these iconic multi-role tactical fighter jets of the Hungarian air force – had arrived from Sweden and represent determinant air power in the Hungarian Defence Forces.

“Today I and the Swedish minister of defence had a discussion in Stockholm, and signed an agreement that may be of historic significance, within the framework of which we will be jointly collaborating on the development of the Gripen aircraft and in numerous other important bilateral issues” – he said.

The minister pointed out that the Swedish-Hungarian relations have been raised to strategic level, especially since Sweden’s accession to NATO.

“We agree on many important points, but our opinions differ on some very important issues. With regard to Ukraine, Hungary stands on the side of peace” – announced Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, emphasizing that we see diplomacy as the only solution to reach truce and hold peace talks instead of continuing the fighting. “Although our opinions diverge on this point, we have held a valuable and sincere conversation” – said the politician.
