Torrent of Medals at the Weekend

Outstanding military athletes of four sports awarded Hungary with a torrent of medals over the weekend.

Fencing World Championships – Silver medal by Gergely Siklósi

Lieutenant Gergely Siklósi is a world champion silver medallist. Our military athlete got into the épée finals with a spectacular fencing performance in Tbilisi, where the Japanese Koki Kano stopped him. Thus, he won a silver medal for Hungary and the Hungarian Defence Forces.

World Aquatics Championships – 8th place with a country record by the women’s 4x100 m freestyle relay

The team of Corporal Panna Ugrai, Nikolett Pádár, Petra Senánszky and Minna Ábrahám won 8th place in the women’s 4x100 m freestyle relay at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

European Modern Pentathlon Championship – Bronze medal by the Hungarian women’s relay

The women’s relay team of Corporal Noémi Eszes and Emma Mészáros won a bronze medal at the European Modern Pentathlon Championship in Madrid.

“I am glad that after the team, I can step onto the podium with Emma in relay, as well. This result is especially valuable as a hard week is behind us, but we could maintain a stable performance in every category despite the tiredness”, said our military athlete.

Judo World Tour – Silver medal by Zsombor Vég in Ulaanbaatar

Lance Corporal Zsombor Vég won a silver medal at the Judo Grand Slam held in Ulaanbaatar. Our military athlete stepped on the tatami in the 100 kg category, where he won confidently against his South Korean, Chinese, then the two-time-world-champion Spanish opponent. However, in the finals, the Ukrainian competitor was better; thus, Lance Corporal Vég had the opportunity to step on the second stage of the podium in the Mongolian capital.

European Modern Pentathlon Championship – Gold medal by the Hungarian mixed relay

Corporal Blanka Guzi and Mihály Koleszár became European champions with an overwhelming victory in mixed relay at the European Modern Pentathlon Championship in Spain.

Fencing World Championships – Bronze medal by the Hungarian Men’s épée team

The Hungarian team of Corporal Dániel Dósa, Corporal Gergely Tóth, Andor Mihályi and Gergő Szemes won a bronze medal at the FIE Senior Fencing World Championships in Tbilisi. The last time a Hungarian men’s épée team won a medal at a world championship was in Lausanne in 1987.

European Modern Pentathlon Championship – Gold medal by the Hungarian women’s team

The women’s team of Corporal Blanka Guzi, Corporal Noémi Eszes and Blanka Bauer became champion at the European Modern Pentathlon Championship in Spain.

In the individual category, Corporal Blanka Guzi became 4th, while Corporal Noémi Eszes became 14th.
