The EDGE Group in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has numerous advanced defence solutions that could contribute to supporting Hungary’s strategic goals and defence needs, declared Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky. Following the UAE–Hungary Business Roundtable in Abu Dhabi, the defence minister signed a Letter of Intent on defence cooperation with the EDGE Group in the fields of defence innovation and research and development.

The minister pointed out that the Letter of Intent signed now strengthens the bilateral relations and enhances the cooperation in the fields of defence innovation and research and development.

The minister underlined that without a strong defence industry, there is no security. Therefore, deepening the relationship with the UAE – which have a decisive economic and military force in the Arabian Gulf – contributes to enhancing the HDF’s combat readiness and deterring force.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky recalled that in April 2024, he had discussed the possibilities for military and defence industry cooperation with Mohammad Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, in the United Arab Emirates. He added, “We are now strengthening this cooperation with the EDGE Group, a world-leader military industry company”.

Besides the Letter of Intent, we also signed a contract with the UAE-based company for new CARACAL sniper rifles, said the minister.

The defence minister told us that during the past years, the United Arab Emirates had taken on an increasingly active part in forms of international military and security cooperation, including the Sahel. Similarly to Hungary, the UAE considers the stability of the region significant, thus, it aims to support local governments in fighting against terrorism and other security challenges.
