As soon as Hungary’s economic capacity made it possible, the Hungarian government launched a major national defence and military development program, so we have rearmed the air force, too, in recent years – said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at the opening of the 29th Börgönd Airshow on Sunday, where MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Deputy Minister Tamás Vargha was also present.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky reminded his audience that the Hungarian Defence Forces have brand-new rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, a new Airbus helicopter fleet has been built, the Gripen fleet is to be complemented with four tactical fighter-bombers and some days ago, the KC-390 military transport aircraft of the Brazilian Embraer company has arrived. He also mentioned that next year will see more jet trainers arriving, and that the state-of-the-art, world-class items of equipment of the ground-based air defence are continuously entering service so that they can provide the security of Hungarian airspace.

The Székesfehérvár-based Albatrosz Repülő Egyesület (Albatros Flying Association) organized the Börgönd Airshow for the 29th time at an airfield on the edge of Székesfehérvár, which introduces Hungarian aviation and aircraft as well as the air force and the land forces of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

This year’s air parade offered a wide range of attractions. In the field of powered aerobatics, Zoltán Veres arrived with his MXS aircraft; whereas former MiG-21 and MiG-29 pilot Gyula Vári with his new, Jak-55 plane. The Hungarian-made Genaviation GenPro aerobatic aircraft was also among the things to see, just like the Altus, an aircraft designed by Krisztián Dolhai, which has already flown five world records, as well as the L-29 Delfin jet trainer.

Two iconic helicopters of Hungarian military aviation were also present at the event, namely the Ka-26 and the Mi-2. A H145M helicopter from the Szolnok unit held a dynamic and static display, and the Hungarian-made HungaroCopter light helicopter also got airborne.
