As of 4 May, the HDF 101st Aviation Wing will be representing the Hungarian Defence Forces with JAS 39 Gripens at Araxon Air Base, Greece during the NATO Tiger Meet 2026, one of the best-known international exercises of air forces.
Successful Rescue Operation in the Middle East

The Hungarian Defence Forces have already transported more than 480 people – including 385 Hungarian citizens – to Budapest from the war-stricken Middle East. The Hungarian Air Force helped with eight rescue flights to those stuck in the region of Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Oman between 4 and 9 March. The successful operation is the result of the effective cooperation among numerous units.

The Hungarian National Organisation for Rescue Services (HUNOR) left for the town of Tinglev, Denmark, with KC-390 and Airbus 319 transport aircraft of the Hungarian Defence Forces to participate in an international exercise.
Lithuanian military recognition to Hungarian Air Force representatives

This year, the single ground-based air defence (GBAD) organization of the Lithuanian Air Force celebrates two milestones of its existence: the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Air Defence Battalion and the 90th anniversary of the creation of the air defence artillery (Aircraft Defence Detachment) branch in the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The Hungarian invitees of the ceremony were Brigadier General Ferenc Könczöl, Commander, HDF 101st Aviation Wing, Colonel Tibor Matyi, Commander, HDF 205th Air Defence Regiment (Győr) and Lieutenant Colonel Sándor Nagy, Commander, 1st NASAMS Battalion of the Győr-based regiment.

Baltic Air Policing for the fourth time

The personnel of the 69th rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces Baltic Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) Detachment – stationed in a lead nation role at Šiauliai Air Base, Lithuania – are about to start performing air policing tasks for the fourth time as of 1 August. The airmen are already preparing on the spot for executing the tasks of the next four months, with several of them serving at the base not for the first time.

Above the clouds in ten-ship formation – our Gripens take off together with eleven nations for two weeks at Exercise Ramstein Flag 24. During the wide-scale event, more than 60 aircraft will be airborne at the same time twice a day, ensuring the practice of combined NATO air operations and the development of capabilities.
