Chiefs of Staff of V4 Countries Hold Discussions in Budapest

The chiefs of staff of the Visegrád Four—including General Zsolt Sándor—met in Budapest on June 3 to discuss current regional challenges and coordinate their common objectives. The conference focused on technological issues in modern warfare, including counter unmanned aerial systems (UAS) capabilities.

From July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, Hungary holds the presidency of the Visegrád Group (V4) for the seventh time. At one of the closing events of the rotating presidency, General Zsolt Sándor, Chief of the HDF Defence Staff, welcomed military leaders from the allied countries—Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia—with military honors.

Following the official reception, Minister of Defence Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi received the generals on an office call.

The meeting continued with plenary sessions at the Stefánia Palace – Honvéd Cultural Center. During the discussions, General Zsolt Sándor, along with Lieutenant General Miroslav Lorinc, Chief of Defence of Slovakia, Lieutenant General Miroslav Hlaváč, Deputy Chief of Defence of the Czech Republic, and Lieutenant General Stanisław Czosnek, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, reviewed the latest global and regional security challenges. The agenda also included the development of UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems, i.e., drones) and C-UAS (Counter-UAS) capabilities.

The summit concluded with the handover of the rotating presidency, during which the Hungarian delegation handed over the symbolic hammer to Slovakia, entrusting it with coordinating military cooperation among the V4 countries for the coming year.
