Cross Landing: the arrival of rotary-wing assistance

Hungarian and Serbian servicemembers arriving in the area of Dóc encountered a thick screen of smoke and the deafening roar of helicopters. Casualties lying on the ground with realistic moulaged wounds on them were waiting for personnel recovery. The objective of the two-day, cross-border Exercise Cross Landing was to have the two nations’ armed forces perfect their joint air search and rescue (SAR) operations.

The two newest Gripen fighter jets of Hungary have arrived from Sweden to further expand the fleet of the Hungarian Defence Forces, in which already 16 such aircraft are available. At the 29 April handover ceremony, it was stated that this type has unquestionably been the backbone of domestic airspace defence for several years.

NATO General visits the Rock

On 18 March, Lieutenant General Juan Pablo Sanchez de Lara, Commander, NATO’s Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC), Torrejon, Spain paid an official visit to the Hungarian Defence Forces Air Operation Command and Control Centre (HDF AOCCC), Veszprém. The NATO CAOC Torrejon Commander was received by Brigadier General Dr. Tamás Bali, Deputy Commander, HDF Joint Operations Command.

Above the Bakony Hill, roaring engine noise broke the silence on Tuesday, 27 January. The airborne company of the HDF Special Operations Command carried out parachute jumps from one of the most state-of-the-art aircraft of the Hungarian Defence Forces, an Embraer KC-390 Millennium.
