Search and Rescue with Rotorcraft

Paramedics arriving at the scene of the accident were met by casualties trapped in parachutes, suspended from trees, and lying among the wreckage during air search and rescue exercise Air Wolf Hunting.
The tranquility of Egerbakta in Heves County was broken by the roar of helicopters. During an air search and rescue exercise organized by the HDF 86th Helicopter Wing, soldiers, working in cooperation with partner agencies, carried out major incident medical care in the area.
“During today’s exercise, our search and rescue crew had to manage a major incident in collaboration with the National Ambulance Service and the National Directorate General for Disaster Management,” said Major Tamás Bimbó, acting chief of flight operations at the HDF 86th Helicopter Wing, reporting on the exercise.
Together with the staff of the National Ambulance Service – arriving at the scene in an H135 helicopter – and the HUNOR rescue team from the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, they practiced the loading and unloading of casualties in an outdoor area, their air transport, and the handover of standard equipment, all of this taking place in the Mátra, in mountainous conditions.
The four-day Air Wolf Hunting 2026 has several international dimensions. Turkish and Egyptian soldiers have arrived at the event as observers, and on the final day the Hungarians will be working alongside Spanish soldiers.
During the first half of the exercise, warm-up sessions and specialised training were held for the personnel, after which the participants carried out complex, large-scale scenarios in collaboration with partner agencies.
