We also covered some possibilities for joint engagement in terms of training and foreign missions, which are open for both national armed forces” – emphasized General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF General Staff at the Slovakian–Hungarian meeting of chiefs of defence in Tata on Tuesday, 19 March.
The chief of defence told us that he agreed with his Slovakian counterpart, General Daniel Zmeko on the fact that bilateral and successful cooperation is equally important for both the Slovakian and Hungarian parties because their armed forces serve in the same area of operations within NATO and their superior command will also be the same in the near future in the “person” of the Spanish corps headquarters.
“We were listening to the report of the Székesfehérvár-based Headquarters Multinational Division Centre (HQ MND-C) in light of this. The Commander of HQ MND-C has been Slovakian Major General Tibor Králik for almost a year now. From NATO plans, we discussed the tasks assigned to us, in terms of training, preparation and new combat techniques” – he said.
The chief of defence emphasized that they have a good personal, friendly relationship with General Zmeko. “Both of us graduated as infantrymen and we see the world and the change of security environment similarly” – he added.
The high-ranking guest was received with military honours at the HDF 1st Armoured Brigade, where first the commander of the Tata unit, Colonel István Tóth presented the structure, task system and equipment of the military organization. The presentation was closed with a static display and a dynamic demonstration of the equipment and capabilities: the Slovakian–Hungarian delegation had the opportunity to learn about the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle, the Gidran armoured tactical vehicle, the PzH2000 self-propelled howitzer and the Leopard main battle tanks.
