EUFOR: State Secretary’s visit with a joint run
Text: Ministry of Defence | Photo: EUFOR |  13:20 November 24, 2025EUFOR Commander Major General Florin Marian Barbu recently received a Hungarian delegation headed by MoD State Secretary for Force Development and Defence Policy Dr. Zsolt Kutnyánszky visiting EUFOR Operation Althea, the European Union’s peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Among the members of the delegation travelling to Sarajevo were Major General Zoltán Somogyi, Director of Staff, HDF Defence Staff and Brigadier General Ferenc Solymosi, Commander, HDF Logistic Support Command. At the official discussion, the leaders reviewed the current security situation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Major General Florin Marian Barbu pointed out that the EUFOR plays a critical role in ensuring that the citizens of the country can live in safety, and the continuous cooperation with local partners is essential to it. The commander also spoke with appreciation about the Hungarian troops’ valuable work in the mission.

In what followed, the Hungarian delegation visited the Hungarian contingent stationed in Camp Butmir, where its members thanked the soldiers for their committed and dedicated service. At the time of the visit, the personnel of the EUFOR Multinational Battalion were participating in a special physical training, which was joined by Zsolt Kutnyánszky and EUFOR Chief of Staff Brigadier General Tibor Szabó as well.
The weather did not favor the participants, who warmed up and did the workout together with the soldiers in the rain, and then ran several kilometers. At the end of the session, the state secretary said that everybody had stood their ground, demonstrating that good teamwork and camaraderie can get one through the challenges even in the most difficult circumstances.
