On Tuesday, November 30 Defence Minister Dr. Tibor Benkő received in his office Spain’s ambassador to Budapest HE Ms. Anunciada Fernández de Córdova. Also present at the meeting was Colonel A. Escrigas Rodríguez, the new Spanish defence attaché accredited to Hungary.

Defence Minister Tibor Benkő recently received General Richard D. Clarke, Commanding General, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) on a courtesy call. The meeting took place in the framework of the conference “Resistance and Resilience Concept” in Stefánia Palace, Budapest on Thursday, 18 November.

On 15–16 November the defence ministers of the European Union met in Brussels, where Hungary was represented by Defence Minister Tibor Benkő. Prior to the defence ministers’ plenary sessions, the defence ministers of the Visegrád Four countries met with their counterpart, French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly. The discussion was the first ministerial-level meeting of the Hungarian V4 presidency in V4+ format.

On Thursday, 11 November, as a member of the delegation headed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő attended the 5th meeting of the Turkey-Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. On the margins of the event, he held a bilateral discussion with his counterpart, Turkish Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar. Speaking in Ankara, Defence Minister Benkő stated that Turkey is an important strategic partner of Hungary in terms of military cooperation, therefore the two countries will conclude a framework agreement to further strengthen and expand this partnership.

On Thursday, 4 November Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő received Austrian Defence Minister in the framework of a border meeting in Sopronbánfalva. During the official meeting, the two sides discussed the European security situation and its future, the common challenges, the forms of bilateral military cooperation and, last but not least, the tasks connected with the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, 3 November Defence Minister Tibor Benkő received General Christopher G. Cavoli, Commanding General, U.S. Army Europe and Africa on a courtesy call. Besides the selection and training of soldiers, the commanding general discussed current security issues with the minister of defence. During his two-day visit, General Cavoli also had a discussion with Major General Zsolt Sándor, Deputy Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces and participated in a panel at the National University of Public Service.

On 26 October, defence policy directors of the Central European Defence Cooperation (CEDC) and the countries of the Western Balkans met in Trakošćan, Croatia. Hungary was represented at the meeting by Dr. Gergely Németh, Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy of the Ministry of Defence.

On 22nd October, Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of Hungary in NATO Zoltán Nagy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Belgium and Luxembourg Iván Tamás Kovács, and Lieutenant General Gábor Böröndi, Head of the Military Representative Office laid a wreath in the presence of Piarist Priest István Havas and members of the Hungarian 1956 Diaspora.

The top leaders of leading American companies recently visited Budapest already for the sixth time, in the organization of the US–Hungary Business Council. On Thursday, 14 October, on behalf of the defence portfolio, Defence Minister Dr. Tibor Benkő received 14 representatives of eight companies who arrived, among others, from the fields of defence industry, cyber defence, pharmaceutical industry, medical technology industry, oil and gas industry as well as tobacco industry.
