The Hungarian Air Force Strengthens – New Gripens Arrive

The four new Gripen fighter aircraft will arrive in Kecskemét by 30 June. We promised strength, we have built strength! With the Hungarian fleet now comprising 18 fighter aircraft, we further strengthen Hungary’s security. Hungary supports NATO’s decision on increasing its Alliance-wide ballistic missile defence posture, which serves the defence of the populations of allied countries, including Hungary, in response to the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East – stated Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky following NATO’s announcement.

“The Hungarian Defence Forces help! The first evacuation flight, an Airbus A319 of the Hungarian Air Force has arrived home from Amman and safely landed in Budapest. I thank the air force for the excellent accomplishment of the mission. The Hungarian people can count on us” – said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky in a video published on his social media page on 4 March.

Agreement with the 4iG on Strengthening Hungarian Defence Capabilities

The purpose of the now-signed agreement is to strengthen Hungary’s defence capabilities and the competitiveness of the domestic defence industry in the long-term, declared Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at the ceremonious signature of the cooperation agreement among the Ministry of Defence, the Hungarian Defence Forces and 4iG Space and Defence Technologies (SDT).

Czech-Hungarian Defence Policy Discussion in Budapest

A meeting of Czech and Hungarian defence policy directors was held in Budapest on 9 and 10 February 2026. MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy László Hajnik received Czech Defence Policy Director Martin Riegl. Military-to-military cooperation, current NATO and EU topics and the global security policy situation were at the centre of the meeting.
