The defence minister pointed out that the Turkish-Hungarian defence industry cooperation has already brought outstanding results, a flagship of which is the Gidrán project. In the field of armed forces modernization, this program is still one of the most successful initiatives of the Hungarian Defence Forces, which also contributes to the HDF meeting NATO’s new capability statements.

We procured the Gidrán tactical vehicles – from which 56 more were handed over now – to develop the land and special operations capabilities of the HDF. Nurol Makina manufactures the combat vehicles in Türkiye and the supplementary electronic, signal, radar and weapons systems are integrated into them in Hungary, underlined the minister.

Besides strengthening the existing outstanding relationship with Nurol Makina, Hungary is committed to further expanding the defence innovation cooperation with Türkiye so that the defence sectors of the two countries can support each other’s development, emphasized the minister.

The Gidrán 4×4 multipurpose armoured vehicle is manufactured by the Turkish Nurol Makina and is equipped with Hungarian developments. Its survivability is provided by the mine resistance system and the special armour. Besides, it is really versatile, being armed with remote controlled weapon station, night vision camera and heavy machine gun.

I am pleased to say that we have acquired valuable experience about Gidrán tactical vehicles not only in the field of operation but also in economic cooperation and defence procurement. Besides, we have an outstanding cooperation with Nurol Makina and our aim is to expand our relationship to other Turkish companies, said Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.
