Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that the exercise had been organized in defence of the Hungarian people. The members of the training audience are exercising how the state can defend its citizens. They must be able to continuously maintain this capability, and they are now working on it – he added.
The minister noted that Adaptive Hussars 2025 – which has been planned for years – is the largest-scale military exercise in Hungary since the 1989 regime change. There was another military exercise in 2023, whose lessons learned have been analyzed and utilized in preparing for this year’s exercise that reacts to a fictitious situation.
He highlighted that the participants are practicing how the country would react to a fictitious military offensive, noting that several NATO partner countries are also participating in the exercise.
Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky added that on top of the above, Adaptive Hussars 2025 is a whole-of-government exercise that is running with the participation of the system of public administration besides the military, because in the event of an armed attack, the public administration, too, has to make decisions. Being a joint exercise, all units and branches of the Hungarian Defence Forces are participating in it, thus around 22,000 career/contract soldiers and reservists are exercising in a number of areas around Hungary throughout six weeks.
