Exercise Steadfast Duel 2025 was directed by the NATO Joint Warfare Centre based in Stavanger, Norway, with the participation of all 32 member nations, including the newest members Sweden and Finland.
This year’s computer-assisted command post exercise (CAX/CPX) was designed to train the three joint force commands in Europe and the USA, and involved some 7000 military and civilian personnel. The planners based the exercise scenario on the changed security environment, which requires NATO to simulate the challenges of our complex and continuously evolving security environment in the most realistic way possible.

The training audiences were exercising NATO’s Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area (DDA) family of plans, during which they learned valuable lessons that may be used in real-world combat circumstances as well.
The seven-member Hungarian role-playing team was acting on behalf of the Hungarian Defence Forces Joint Operations Command in the system of the exercise, representing almost every special field from military operations to logistics to reconnaissance to strategic communication. The work of the Hungarian role-players was supported by their comrades from Hungary and by Hungarian liaison officers serving at cooperating NATO commands.
