Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky: Hungary Rejects Steps Attacking Israel
Text: defence.hu | Photo: Gábor Kormány |  16:04 October 29, 2025Hungary rejects every unilateral step attacking Israel. We do not support anything that weakens democracy, while terrorist organisations are threatening innocents, said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at the III. International Pro-Israel Summit in Budapest on Tuesday.

At the event organised by the Center for Fundamental Rights, the minister underlined that Hungary rejects the international economic boycott and every double standard. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky asked everyone to commemorate the victims of the 2023 Hamas terror attack, as well as the hostages, whose suffering shook the world. He recalled that Hungary was first in line to strongly condemn the attack.
“We are glad for those who could return home and mourn those who never will. The escape of Omri Miran, the last Hungarian-Israeli hostage, is a special pleasure to us”, he added. The minister also said that Hungary believes that it is not enough to wish for peace; it must be established, which requires bravery and leaders who turn hope into action.
He remarked that that is why the government of Hungary shows respect for US President Donald Trump, who, with his leadership, has given peace a real chance in the Middle East. He also mentioned that, with his participation in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán proved that Hungary undertakes responsibility for the future of the region. “We trust that Hungary will soon also be a meeting point of peace. We do not talk about peace while distancing ourselves from it, but rather help establish it”, he added.

According to Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Europe will be strong again when it regains its moral discernment and the courage to say out that what is good is good and what is bad is bad.
He also said that the Hungarian–Israeli friendship does not exist in words but in actions. This is also demonstrated by the example that when others closed their doors, Hungary opened its stadiums, and the Israeli national team and clubs had the opportunity to hold their games there.
In Europe, the life of Jewish communities is nowhere safer than in Hungary, and this is served by the government’s adoption of a national strategy against anti-Semitism last year, which means zero tolerance and provides consistent protection.
“Hungary and Israel prove that small nations can also stand upright if they are guided by faith and truth. We are connected by history, faith and alliance, which cannot be untied by time. Our bilateral relations are at their highest, supporting Israel and the Jews is key to the sovereign Hungary’s success. Hungary stands by Israel, as Israel also stands by Hungary, on the side of peace, truth and sovereign nations”, stated the defence minister.
