Further Modern Military Equipment Arrives in the Hungarian Defence Forces

The fleet of the Hungarian Defence Forces has been expanded with further Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks, a Lynx infantry fighting vehicle and thousands of modern small arms, announced the defence minister on 28 March.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky told us that two Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks arrived at the HDF 1st Armoured Brigade in Tata and thousands of CZ Bren 2 assault rifles will soon be distributed among the units. The HDF 30th Mechanized Infantry Brigade will be strengthened with another Lynx KF-41 infantry fighting vehicle. Besides, Lynx drivers will be able to practice on two newly set-up driving training simulators (DTS) at the Hódmezővásárhely-based unit. The defence minister emphasized that the Government aims to equip the HDF with state-of-the-art equipment.

“Thanks to the Zrínyi Defence and Military Development Program, our soldiers perform their duties using modern and reliable equipment with high combat value, thus strengthening Hungary’s security”, said Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.

The minister said that the HDF will enter further modern equipment into service in the following months. Further Leopard main battle tanks, Wisent 2 armoured recovery vehicles, Leguan armoured bridge layers, Lynx infantry fighting vehicles and H225M helicopters will arrive in Tata, Hódmezővásárhely and Szolnok. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized that the security environment is constantly changing, so it is of key importance that Hungary be able to defend itself. Equipment procurements serve the purpose of making the Hungarian Defence Forces modern and combat-ready, prepared for every challenge – pointed out the minister of defence.
