HDF National Parachute Team Ends Season with Medals

The final round of this year’s long-running World Cup series was held in Switzerland. The Hungarian national team also performed well at the closing event in Locarno, finishing in eighth place in the overall team competition and securing the same position in the annual overall results based on the six rounds.

Among the individual performances, Warrant Officer Gábor Hirschler stood out, finishing fifth in the annual overall results of the absolute category, while Captain Tamás Bánszki finished eighth in the same category. In the master category, however, both Hungarian competitors made it to the podium: Warrant Officer Gábor Hirschler finished first, and Captain Tamás Bánszki finished third.

The 2026 season posed a particularly great challenge for the Hungarian soldiers. Throughout the six World Cup rounds, the team consistently faced tasks that required a high level of concentration, precision, and consistent performance. The national team competed in every event, allowing its members to learn valuable international lessons. In addition to the World Cup series, Hungarian soldiers also performed successfully at this year’s World Military Parachuting Championships, where they advanced to the accuracy landing final and secured a commendable 7th place in the team competition.

Captain Tamás Bánszki, the team’s technical director, gave a positive assessment of the season’s results. He emphasized that, overall, the national team performed well in the international competition, and the individual results were particularly encouraging. The national parachute team managed to compete with a consistent lineup throughout the season, gradually integrating young competitors. He said they are grateful to their leaders for supporting the team and that they will continue to work hard.

The coming period offers further opportunities for development for young competitors. To reach the international elite, in addition to competition experience, they need to improve their technical skills and precision, as well as maintain consistent, high-level performance. The long season has come to an end, but the work does not stop. After reflecting on the lessons learned, preparations will begin for the next challenges, including the Military World Games to be held in the United States next summer.

The 2026 results show that Hungarian military parachuting has firmly established itself on the international stage. The next step could be to build on the lessons learned, help young military competitors catch up, and further improve results. All of this will continue to require consistent, hard work.
