The organization is characterized by duality: administratively, it belongs to the HDF 51st Signal and Headquarter Support Brigade in Székesfehérvár. At the operational level, it is part of the 3rd NATO Signal Battalion, which is integrated into the NATO command structure as part of the NATO CIS Group (NCISG) and located in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz.

Deployable Communication and Information Services (DCIS) and operations
The main tasks of the Group are determined by the requirements for information communication equipment and services to enable NATO Command and Control (C2). Providing trained personnel for NATO operations and exercises, related to the readiness, is an essential part of their responsibilities. In addition to their basic duties – as stated by Company Commander Major Pálma Anikó Kovács – their contribution to NATO exercises and deploying on operations plays a decisive role. However, their mission is more of a challenge than a problem for their soldiers. “Our soldiers deploy to Iraq in four-month rotations depending on their assigned roles” – noted the major. She added that extended deployments, such as the six months in Türkiye, can be challenging for families, although the professional benefits of foreign service are well recognized and supported by loved ones.
The unit participates in various NATO exercises, such as STEADFAST COBALT, aimed at developing and testing integrated static and NATO Deployable Communication and Informations Systems (DCIS). The purpose of such exercises is the development, control and improvement of the integrated static and NATO DCIS systems, i.e. the Alliance’s communication infrastructure and Cyber Defense mechanism. Soldiers can be asked to operate CIS equipment, and during several weeks of NATO exercises, they also assist in the buildup and tear down phase of DCIS systems. Next year, the unit is scheduled to participate in the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI) and to contribute to a NATO task in Türkiye.

Awards
“In our company, a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) often coordinates a major exercise from start to finish, effectively acting as a project manager” – highlighted the major. She recalled that two of her soldiers earned the prestigious SACEUR Recognition Award for Outstanding Service”. “It is important for colleagues to see that their work is significant, that what they do is valuable, and that their effort is recognised!” – stated the Company Commander. “Last year, we were able to receive a Team Award for our performance at an information communication exercise in Nagyvárad, which we supported with considerable organizational, planning and executive work. In autumn, we took part in challenging training events in Gdynia/Gdansk, Poland: this was an exercise located 30-40 kilometres from the Kaliningrad region of Russia, where we were tasked to deploy with our DCIS.”

Thinking about expansion
“We are always looking to increase our numbers, so we welcome those interested in our profession, especially ambitious NCOs. Our working language is English, although within the company we use Hungarian for instructions” – emphasizes Major Pálma Anikó Kovács. “Wherever we go – from Portugal to Germany – our training is continuous. We work with cutting-edge 21st-century technology and travel extensively. Joining us offers soldiers the opportunity for permanent foreign assignments and improved language learning, as foreign language use is a natural part of our daily operations.” In addition to language and professional knowledge, we also place great emphasis on improving and maintaining our physical fitness.
