On the second day of his trip to Lebanon, the minister visited the Headquarters of the peacekeeping mission United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), where he met with the Italian Head of Mission (Force Commander), Major General Diodato Abagnara. The general gave an update of the current situation in Southern Lebanon, in the areas bordering Israel.
In what followed, the minister of defence travelled further to Camp Shamrock base, where the Hungarian peacekeepers serve.
The base is in Southern Lebanon, near the demarcating Blue Line marked by the United Nations between Israel and Lebanon. This area is one of the most sensitive points of the mission, where peacekeepers carry out patrols on a daily basis and are tasked with maintaining the ceasefire between the two sides. Within the framework of a joint lunch and a staff meeting, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky personally thanked them for their service.
