The security of the Middle East is essential to the Hungarians, too, because through illegal migration and terrorism, such threats are posed to both Hungary and Europe that must be dealt with by all means, emphasized Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky after the first day of his visit to Lebanon in a video uploaded to his social media page.

Hungary has long been taking part actively in strengthening regional security, since the stability of the Middle East also serves the security of Hungary. For this reason, Hungarian troops are also serving with the peacekeeping mission called United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
“We established diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Hungary 60 years ago. Hungary is committed to supporting peace and stability in the Middle East. Lebanon is a country in the region where security challenges are everyday occurrences” – this is how the minister’s post reads. On the first day of his visit, the Hungarian delegation presented Hungary’s humanitarian aid to soldiers of the Lebanese Armed Forces, and Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky signed a cooperation agreement with Lebanese Defence Minister Michel Messena.
“This agreement forms a basis for our further contributions to the stability of this country, which has great importance from a regional perspective. After holding a political discussion with the minister of defence, I am going to meet with the chief of defence to cover the issues in bilateral military cooperation” – said Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky in his video.
