The International Live Fire Tactical Exercise Breakthrough 2025 has started. The training event is taking place in the Central Shooting Range and Training Area, and will end on 23 November. The objective is to allow tankers and artillerymen of the HDF 1st Armored Brigade to exercise operational planning while being augmented with foreign subunits in a combined-arms environment under real-world circumstances.

Besides the Hungarian troops, the training involves Slovak, Croatian, Polish and Czech subunits as well, and the representatives of the Austrian armed forces in observer status. “We are mainly practicing battle staff management in English and familiarizing ourselves with the procedures and military equipment of other countries” – said Colonel Mátyás Hodoniczki, Chief of Staff, HDF 1st Armored Brigade. “We are simulating real-world combat situations by deploying opposing forces (OPFOR) in a force-on-force scenario, and practicing command and control (C2) while moving on the terrain rather than from inside an office. Close to 500 troops are participating in this large-scale exercise, the Tata brigade assists the cooperation with two battalions, while the international forces contribute platoon-level subunits.”

During the field exercises made realistic through the OPFORs’ role, modern mobile command posts provide assistance for the movement of artillerymen executing tasks, amalgamating 21st century technology with traditional troop leading procedures on terrain.
