On October 14, personnel from the HDF 37th Engineer Regiment welcomed the defence attachés accredited to Hungary at the Damjanich Barracks in Szentes. Diplomats from twelve nations accredited in Budapest reviewed the regiment’s finest assets: following the briefing by the commanding officer, they visited the unit museum, viewed the vehicle fleet, the maintenance workshop and the water purification equipment during a static display. They were able to try out the PTS-M tracked amphibious vehicle, and watched a dynamic demonstration of the PMP pontoon bridge kit.
New Momentum in Hungarian–Turkish Cooperation

A professional delegation from the HDF Joint Operations Command’s Land Forces and a delegation from the Turkish General Staff held discussions on opportunities for joint international training exercises. The Hungarian delegation was headed by Brigadier General Zsolt Molnár, Deputy Commander (Land Forces) at the HDF Joint Operations Command, while the Turkish side was represented by Brigadier General Kamil Tumba, Head of Defence Planning and Project Management at the Turkish Land Forces Command.

The Hungarian Defence Forces vitéz Szurmay Sándor Budapest Garrison Brigade recently organized the International Patrol and Shooting Competition already on the 29th occasion at the HDF BGB Training Base and Range. The program of the three-day, testing trial of strength for the participants included a run of tens of kilometers, sweaty strength exercises, shooting and hand-grenade throwing. This time, the travelling trophy went to the Polish team.
Exchange student program the cadets’ way

Every year, students of the Moravska Trebova Military High School, Czechia spend a week in the company of the cadets of the Debrecen-based Kratochvil Károly Honvéd Secondary School and Dormitory in Hungary, this time at the Újfehértó Defence Sports Center. After a 8-km route march, the cadets pitched camp and then, together with their hosts, participated in a range night and a reconnaissance task.

On 9 May the new National Assembly was formed, the MPs were sworn in and the new speaker of the house was elected. President of TISZA party Péter Magyar took office as prime minister of Hungary. On the occasion of the inaugural session of the new National Assembly, the Hungarian Defence Forces were also present in Kossuth Square, Budapest, where the soldiers of the 32nd Life Guard Regiment of the HDF “vitéz Szurmay Sándor” Budapest Garrison Brigade ceremonially hoisted the flag of Hungary. The ceremonial parade involved the hussars of the Count Ferenc Nádasdy Hussar Division of the HDF “vitéz Szurmay Sándor” Budapest Garrison Brigade and the cavalrymen of the Hungarian National Ceremonial Hussar Squadron, as well as the bandsmen of the HDF Central Band.

Aerial reconnaissance is a key element of the closing program in the third week of the 47th International Military Observers Course organized by the HDF Military Training Centre. Altogether 27 students from 14 countries are participating in the course, with one common aim: to serve as military observers on international missions under the aegis of the UN in the interest of preserving peace.

The NATO Allied Joint Doctrine Development Course has been organized by Hungary already on the tenth occasion in Budapest. The HDF Transformation Command is hosting a five-day course that started on 20 April. Co-organized with the NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and the NATO Standardization Office (NSO), the course provides training for doctrine custodians and developers.

The Space & Defense Festival has brought together in Budapest the key players of domestic and international defence and space industry. “The power relations are rearranging, and we must react to the transformation of warfare and the changing security situation” – emphasized General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff in his lecture. “To ensure their strategic autonomy, the establishment of proper space capability is indispensable for any country” – stated László Deme, MoD Deputy State Secretary for Force Development and Innovation in summing up the development of the armed forces.
