Effective and friendly cooperation is vital, due to the similar challenges and the common geopolitical situation – especially in the event of danger. In this spirit, among others, a Slovenian-Hungarian border meeting of chiefs of defence was held at the Rheinmetall factory in Zalaegerszeg on 23 May.

At the plenary session chaired by General Gábor Böröndi PhD, Chief of the HDF General Staff and Slovenian Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Robert Glvas, the two delegations talked about the most important tasks of the near future. Among others, they discussed the kind of industrial background to be established in the common border line region for the operation of modern and well-trained armed forces, as well as the joint exercises to be held in the coming periods.

“The Hungarian Defence Forces must rely on the neighboring countries. We have the same challenges as our Slovenian comrades, partly because of the Russo-Ukrainian War, and partly because of the tangible tension in the Western Balkans. Together we can give joint responses to these challenges. We have discussed the joint exercises and continue with the multinational cooperation between our land forces (Multinational Land Forces, MLF): we also agreed on the specific positions to be filled by the respective nations within the framework of this cooperation” – said Hungarian Chief of Defence General Dr. Gábor Böröndi PhD.

Following the joint session, the two delegations were first shown around in the factory by CEO of Rheinmetall Hungary Ltd Paul Walf, and then the guests observed several outstanding capabilities of the armored personnel carriers at a dynamic demonstration.
