Not only are our borders common with Austria but we also think alike in important matters – said Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky in a video posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, 23 May on the occasion of recently meeting Austrian Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner in the town of Grafenegg in Lower Austria.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky recalled that Hungary will take over the rotating EU presidency in merely six weeks. Hungary lays a distinguished emphasis on the protection of Europe, the development of individual defence capabilities and the strengthening of the European defence industry; and “Hungary is at the forefront in this, we are renewing our armed forces and are also building a strong and independent defence industry” – underlined the minister, adding that Hungary is cooperating with Austria in this matter, too.

Based on his report, the increasing pressure of illegal migration was on the agenda of the meeting, which “already causes serious troubles to Austria, and the cooperation at the border of the two countries is really needed so that Hungary can stay clear of this risk”.

“Peace requires strength, we carry on with the work” – stated Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.
