First Lieutenant Zoltán Janota, the physical training instructor (PTI) officer of the HDF 6th Territorial Defence Regiment, demonstrated great perseverance and determination when he successfully completed the IRONMAN 70.3 international triathlon held in October in Poreč, Croatia.

1,814 athletes, including numerous soldiers, from more than 30 countries took part in the competition that also offers a chance to qualify for the World Championships. The competitors had to complete a 1,900-meter swim in the Adriatic Sea, followed by a 90-kilometer cycle ride and a 21-kilometer run in the scenic surroundings of the Istrian peninsula.

First Lieutenant Zoltán Janota finished in 437th place and achieved the eighth-best result among the 34 Hungarian competitors. His performance is particularly remarkable, given that a calf injury has forced a significantly restricted workout schedule on him over the past five months.

His example clearly illustrates that perseverance, discipline and willpower are the foundations of success not only in military service but also in sports.
