Meeting of Hungarian and Slovakian Defence Policy Directors

László Hajnik, MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy received his Slovakian counterpart, Robert Bestro, Defence Policy Director and his delegation within the framework of an official visit in Budapest between 16 and 17 January.

Among the members of the delegation was Martin Čatloš, Slovakian National Armaments Director, who had a bilateral conversation with General (Ret.) László Tömböl, Hungarian National Armament Director. The goals of the meetings were to discuss the current issues of Hungarian–Slovakian military-to-military and defence relations, deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries and explore new possible fields for cooperation. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current security policy challenges and events, which centre on the War in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

As for the factors affecting the strategic environment, they agreed on the significance of maintaining the stability and security of the Western Balkan, as well as on the importance of handling and solving the problem of migration at its starting place. During the discussions, the Slovakian delegation was informed about the Hungarian armed forces development program and the formation of the reservist and national defence education system, among others.
