At the IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies) Defence Summit in Prague, Defence Minister Dr Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi discussed a new era in Europe’s defence with political and military leaders responsible for the continent’s security.
“The world has changed. It is not enough for Europe to talk about security: it must also be capable of defending itself. This requires a strong NATO, adequate defence capabilities, a European defence industry and, above all, well-trained soldiers. It is in Hungary’s interest to have a Europe that is secure, resilient and capable of strengthening its own defence capabilities – while continuing to think within the framework of the transatlantic alliance,” the minister wrote on his social media page.
He highlighted that Hungary’s position is clear: the safety of the Hungarian people comes first. “That is why we are developing the capabilities of the Hungarian Defence Forces, strengthening our defence industry, and why we are actively involved in shaping the security of NATO and Europe. This is what I represented in Prague too: Hungary is ready to contribute to Europe’s security, but above all we must guarantee the security of our own nation,” emphasised Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi.
“Security cannot be taken for granted. It must be established, strengthened and protected. The government of Hungary is working towards this goal every single day,” the Minister of Defence concluded in his post.
