Preparing Hungarian Commander of EUFOR visits France

On November 20, Major General László Sticz PhD, the next commander of Operation Althea of the European Union Force (EUFOR) paid a visit to Paris, heading a delegation. The aim of the visit was to learn about the details of the French engagement in Bosnia-Herzegovina and about the French–Bosnian relations.

During the visit, while in the Ministry of the French Armed Forces, the delegation held discussions with Major General Philippe Montenon, Commander, Operations Planning and Command Centre and with Admiral Cristophe Lucas, military deputy of the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Strategy and International Relations and at once country desk officer of the Defence Staff cabinet of the French armed forces. In the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the delegation met and conducted discussions with Mr. Nicolay Fay, Head of Department for the Western Balkans and with Auriane Piveteau, desk officer for Bosnia-Herzegovina.

High on the agenda of the discussions was the topic of the participation of the members of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina – Croatian Željko Komšić, Bosnian Denis Bećirović and Serbian Željka Cvijanović – in the 6th Paris Peace Forum that took place in early November, in the framework of which they had conducted a discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron about the EU integration of the country and issues concerning the opening of EU accession talks. Moreover, the delegation also discussed the French contribution to EUFOR Operation Althea that includes various staff and support positions. Besides, the members of the delegation met with Hungary’s Ambassador to Paris Georg von Habsburg and with Defence, Military and Air Attaché Colonel Tibor Deme.
