Professional visit in Athens
Text: Ministry of Defence | 10:32 April 11, 2023MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy László Hajnik recently paid a three-day visit to Athens at the invitation of Dr. Konstantinos Balomenos, General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Hellenic Ministry of Defence.
During their discussions, the two delegations agreed that they represent collective interests in several areas of defence policy, because the issues they consider as priorities include the handling of migration and the security situation of the Sahel, the West African countries and the Western Balkans, as well as the peaceful settlement of the Russo–Ukrainian War in the shortest possible time.
While visiting Greece, Deputy State Secretary László Hajnik received detailed information about the Greek efforts to curb migration at the Airport Police Station in Alexandroupoli, at the Headquarters of the 16th Mechanized Infantry Division at Didymoteicho Border Guard Station, and at the Kipoi Border Guard Station.
The more than 10,000 meter-long and 4.5-meter-high steel fence along the border of Greece with Turkey ensures the protection of the border. It is complemented by the presence of professional personnel, which is being implemented in the cooperation of the Hellenic Police, the Border Guarding Services, the Hellenic Armed Forces, Frontex and EUROPOL.
Hungary also contributes to Frontex activities through policemen serving in the region.
At their meeting, the two sides pointed out that Hungary and Greece are both committed to fulfilling their membership-related obligations in the EU and NATO, so the strengthening of bilateral relations within the Alliance has outstanding importance.
