Reliable ally and defence industry giant
Text: HDF Defence Staff | Photo: HDF Defence Staff |  13:34 July 28, 2025General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff recently visited the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) organized in Türkiye, where he conducted official discussions with Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Metin Gürak.

This year, the IDEF – one of the largest defence industry events in the region – was opened in Istanbul on 22 July. The fair is aimed at providing the leaders of participating countries with first-hand information about cutting-edge technologies and with an occasion for strengthening their international cooperation. At the official opening of the IDEF, speeches were delivered by Turkish Head of State Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Defence Minister Yasar Güler, as well as Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Turkish Defence Industry Agency (SSB).
Following the opening, General Dr. Gábor Böröndi was given an insight into Türkiye’s military technology development, so he saw the latest, versatile equipment produced by the companies, among others at the stands of military industry companies Nurol Makina, Turkish Aerospace, Baykar, Aselsan and Havelsan.
Special attention was paid to the long-range multifunctional ANKA 3 and Aksungur drone systems with stealth capabilities and a strategic significance in modern warfare, developed by Turkish Aerospace. Baykar company exhibited its smaller drone solutions with tactical use, while Aselsan and Havelsan their innovations in the fields of digital control systems and sensor technologies.

One of the key moments of the visit was the bilateral coordination between the Turkish and Hungarian chiefs of defence. General Dr. Gábor Böröndi and General Metin Gürak reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the two countries, emphasizing that “military cooperation is a mutually beneficial and continuously developing relationship, not only on the level of training and joint exercises but also in the field of defence industry”.
It was stated at the meeting that both parties are committed to further deepening the partnership. Besides their active participation in alliance systems, the Hungarian Defence Forces are also striving to strengthen bilateral relations as well – especially with dynamically developing partners like Türkiye.
