Already on the sixth occasion, the HDF Pápa Air Base has been hosting the flying phase of the Helicopter Tactics Instructor Course (HTIC), which is the second phase of one of the highest-level helicopter tactical training programs run by the Portugal-based Multinational Helicopter Training Center (MHTC).

The coming weeks will see helicopter aircrews carrying out different tactical formation maneuvers, evading fighter aircraft, providing protection against air defence systems and radioelectric jamming, convoy escort and motor vehicle blocking. As the climax of the course, a Composite Air Operation (COMAO) must be planned and carried out, in cooperation with tactical aircraft and land forces.

This year, in the interest of training success, the Hungarian Defence Forces are assuming a role that is wider than ever before. For the first time, the Sklyark 3 ISTAR Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) is supporting the training audience’s task execution, while Major Csaba Balázs Major is the first Hungarian airman to fill the Chief Instructor position of the MHTC.
