In the first week of April, students of the Military General Staff Course visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to further extend their professional knowledge. The soldiers arriving in Sarajevo from the Ludovika University of Public Service Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training received first-hand information about the task system of the two international military organizations operating in the Western Balkan country, namely EUFOR and the NATO Headquarters Sarajevo (NHQSa) and about the tasks of the Hungarian EUFOR contingent.

On behalf of the peacekeeping mission of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the group was received in Camp Butmir by Deputy Commander EUFOR Brigadier General Bálint Legoza and EUFOR Chief of Staff and Senior National Representative Brigadier General Tibor Szabó. In what followed, the students met with Colonel Tibor Csipszer, Chief of Staff NATO Headquarters Sarajevo and Lieutenant Colonel Lajos Kis, the commander of the 30th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent and the Hungarian National Support Element.

After Brigadier General Szabó’s short briefing, the guests were introduced in detail to the current security and political situation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the task system of EUFOR and had a glimpse into the planning processes and ongoing operations of the EUFOR Staff. Special attention was given to a specific lecture that presented the planning of the joint training of EUFOR forces and designated elements of the armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the joint Exercise Combined Response 26, which is scheduled to take place this year.

Colonel Csipszer introduced the students of the course to the most important tasks of the NHQSa and its activities related to the partnership between NATO and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the guests also had the opportunity to talk with Hungarian soldiers serving abroad and exchange lessons learned about service in the mission and their tasks.
