The salary of the soldiers being increased this year as well

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky recalled that in 2022, the Hungarian government decided on a specific salary increase for the Hungarian soldiers provided in two steps: first in September 2022 and second as of January 2024. The minister underlined that the current salary increase means an 11 percent increase on average.

The minister pointed out that the tasks of the Hungarian Defence Forces (HDF) accumulated last year. The Russo-Ukrainian War and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, as well as the migration wave striking Europe, made it justifiable to maintain the increased readiness of the Hungarian soldiers. These together with the international engagements of the HDF justify the further increasing respect of soldiers – the minister added.

The first phase of the salary increase was provided in September 2022, the amount of which was 26.4 percent on average. In the next phase, as of 1 January 2024, the salary of the soldiers is being increased by 11 percent on average. More specifically, it is 12 percent for enlisted personnel, 11 percent for non-commissioned officers and 10 percent for commissioned officers on average.

The volunteer reservist soldiers and the officer candidates are also entitled to the salary increase.
