The former minister of defence spent a significant sum of money on renovating a floor of the MoD Military History Institute and Museum. But this was not enough, he scheduled the spending of further HUF 18 billion on the transformation of other parts of the building. Incumbent Defence Minister Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi has stopped this money squandering and announced today that the HUF 5 billion scheduled for this year and the further HUF 13 billion for next year will be spent on improving the soldiers’ working conditions instead of the ministry building.

Military commanders may submit proposals for improving the infrastructural conditions of their own installations, and the HDF Defence Staff is going to make a professional decision on the barracks where renovations should start in the near future – announced Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi.

The minister of defence emphasized that “always behind the service are the humans, the families, the years, the sacrifices and the everyday dedication”, and went on pointing out that in cooperation with military units, the Ministry of Defence will prepare, until this September, a bill on the military career path model and the worthy system of its closure to be brought before Parliament.

“This is because a nation needs to esteem not only active-duty soldiers but also those who have served the homeland throughout a lifetime. We must give dignity, predictability and respect at the end of all of our comrades’ service” – stated Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi.
