Hungary is helping with security across the Alliance

While visiting Hungary, General Alexus G. Grynkewich, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), Commander, United States European Command personally witnessed that Hungary is delivering on its commitments in the defence Alliance. Besides evaluating and analyzing the military development program, he also discussed the directions of further development with the leaders of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

Recognition from SACEUR

During his visit to Hungary, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Alexus G. Grynkewich, Commander, United States European Command (EUCOM) spoke with appreciation about the Hungarian Defence Forces, pointing out that Hungary has been a valued member of NATO for nearly 30 years. While in Budapest, SACEUR met with Defence Minister Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi and General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff. He also traveled to Székesfehérvár to meet with the military leaders of the Headquarters Multinational Division Centre (HQ MND-C), the NATO Force Integration Unit Hungary (NFIU HUN) and the multinational NATO Forward Land Forces Battle Group (FLF BG).

Exchange student program the cadets’ way

Every year, students of the Moravska Trebova Military High School, Czechia spend a week in the company of the cadets of the Debrecen-based Kratochvil Károly Honvéd Secondary School and Dormitory in Hungary, this time at the Újfehértó Defence Sports Center. After a 8-km route march, the cadets pitched camp and then, together with their hosts, participated in a range night and a reconnaissance task.

We bring the armed forces to success together

The former minister of defence spent a significant sum of money on renovating a floor of the MoD Military History Institute and Museum. But this was not enough, he scheduled the spending of further HUF 18 billion on the transformation of other parts of the building. Incumbent Defence Minister Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi has stopped this money squandering and announced today that the HUF 5 billion scheduled for this year and the further HUF 13 billion for next year will be spent on improving the soldiers’ working conditions instead of the ministry building.

Oath-taking ceremony with military honors

On 9 May the new National Assembly was formed, the MPs were sworn in and the new speaker of the house was elected. President of TISZA party Péter Magyar took office as prime minister of Hungary. On the occasion of the inaugural session of the new National Assembly, the Hungarian Defence Forces were also present in Kossuth Square, Budapest, where the soldiers of the 32nd Life Guard Regiment of the HDF “vitéz Szurmay Sándor” Budapest Garrison Brigade ceremonially hoisted the flag of Hungary. The ceremonial parade involved the hussars of the Count Ferenc Nádasdy Hussar Division of the HDF “vitéz Szurmay Sándor” Budapest Garrison Brigade and the cavalrymen of the Hungarian National Ceremonial Hussar Squadron, as well as the bandsmen of the HDF Central Band.

They have returned home from Bosnia and Herzegovina

“The performance you gave during your tour of duty abroad well exemplifies Hungarian military expertise and camaraderie” – this was how Brigadier General Zsolt Molnár praised the homecoming personnel of the 29th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent. At their homecoming ceremony held in Szentes, the Depuy Commander (Land) of the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) handed over recognitions to soldiers returning home from their service in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky: combat vehicle maintenance, too, has outstanding significance

On 19 March, a combat vehicle repair workshop with an area of 2500 m2 was inaugurated in the Tata barracks of the HDF 1st Armored Brigade, where the maintenance of Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks and PzH 2000HU self-propelled howitzers can be performed on altogether 10 vehicle stands.

NATO General visits the Rock

On 18 March, Lieutenant General Juan Pablo Sanchez de Lara, Commander, NATO’s Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC), Torrejon, Spain paid an official visit to the Hungarian Defence Forces Air Operation Command and Control Centre (HDF AOCCC), Veszprém. The NATO CAOC Torrejon Commander was received by Brigadier General Dr. Tamás Bali, Deputy Commander, HDF Joint Operations Command.

Thinking together, planning together

Colonel General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of Defence Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces, met with his North Macedonian counterpart, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, in Budapest. This consultation is part of the military cooperation that has been consistently and intensively developed in recent years, which serves to strengthen NATO interoperability, to develop joint training, and to ensure stability in the Balkans region.

Trust Forged in Fire

With Hungary holding the presidency, the Hungarian Defence Forces recently received in Hungary the military delegations of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, within the framework of the V4 Cooperation. According to General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of HDF Defence Staff, it is essential that the four countries build real and shared military capabilities. A good example of this is Exercise Breakthrough 2025, the joint training event of the V4 countries, which develops the artillerymen’s and tank crew members’ skills.
