On November 5, Defence Minister Dr Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi welcomed Dragan Krapović, the Montenegrin Minister of Defence in Heroes’ Square. After paying tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the parties held discussions to review the security situation in the Western Balkans, the development of bilateral military cooperation, and current issues relating to NATO and EU integration.

“Relations between Hungary and Montenegro are built on a solid foundation. We agreed that we must continue to strengthen this trust, particularly in the field of defence and military cooperation. We also explored opportunities that could take the form of specific joint programs and cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries,” wrote Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi on his social media page.

“I have also made Hungary’s position on the issue of European integration clear: we support Montenegro’s accession to the European Union, and we consider it important that the countries of the Western Balkans should be able to move forward on the basis of their performance and reforms carried out. At the same time, we do not support accelerating Ukraine’s accession to the EU,” emphasised the Minister of Defence.

“We believe that Europe’s security is underpinned by strong bilateral relations, predictable partnerships and mutual respect. Good relations must be nurtured, and existing cooperation must be given new substance!” – concluded Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi in his post.
