MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy László Hajnik received Major General Zerrouk Dahmani, Director of Social Service at the Algerian Ministry of National Defence.

During the discussion, the two sides reviewed military-to-military relations, the possibilities for developing future cooperation, and also looked into some currently ongoing geopolitical processes. In what followed, the Algerian delegation was informed about the current institutional background to the management of Hungarian defence industry. Several Hungarian companies introduced themselves during the event.
In the interest of developing bilateral military cooperation, the two sides have started exploring possibilities in the areas of international peace support, counter-improvised explosive devices (C-IED), survival, evasion, resistance and escape (SERE) courses, as well as possibilities in the fields of education, preparation and training extending to military medicine courses (traumatology and surgery) held in coordination with Semmelweis University.

During the geopolitical review, the two sides discussed the still fragile security situation in the Western Balkans. The meeting also covered the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, and the participants agreed that long-term peace can only be achieved through diplomacy.
The Hungarian stance on the security challenges of the Sahel states that all problems must be dealt with at their place of origin. The Hungarian side has declared that making contributions to the normalization of the regional security situation is a prioritized foreign policy task of Hungary.
In the Algerian assessment, cross-border terrorism is the primary challenge in the region, against which individual countries can take effective action only to a limited extent. The Algerian side asserted that there is a need for coordinated international cooperation in the interest of finding a solution.
