Hungary leads the way in generating SOF aviation capabilities

The multinational Special Operations Air Task Group (SOATG) recently conducted a large-scale, comprehensive exercise with international participation at the Hévíz-Balaton Airport, Sármellék, Zala County, Hungary. Colonel Péter Simon, Acting Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces Joint Special Operations Command (HDF JSOC) and Colonel Ferenc Könczöl, Acting Commander, Hungarian Air Force made an on-site inspection of the combined training event conducted with foreign partners.

Hungary becomes self-sufficient in 30mm ammunition

The munitions factory complex in Várpalota, which is to be expanded with further elements in the next few months, is a crown jewel of Hungarian arms industry, thanks to which Hungary becomes self-sufficient in 30mm ammo – this was what Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said at the opening ceremony of the medium-calibre munitions factory of the Várpalota Defence Industrial Complex on Monday, 29 July.

World military parachuting championship to be organized in Szolnok

After 2018, Hungary will host again the 46th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship – announced Colonel Dr. Tamás Bali, Commander, HDF 86th Helicopter Wing at a press conference held on the Szolnok-Szandaszőlős Sports Airfield on Friday, 24 May.

Staff Sergeant Zsolt Roland Sándor and Colonel (Ret.) János Csombók received German state decorations at Germany’s embassy in Budapest for the service they provided during the 2021 flooding. According to Germany’s ambassador to Budapest Julia Gross, who presented them with the recognitions, the Hungarian–German military cooperation shows the way forward.

Cooperation in the Air

Troops of five NATO member nations set out from the HDF 47th Airbase in Pápa on Monday, 13 May on an airborne mission within the framework of NATO’s Exercise Swift Response 2024. To demonstrate rapidity and deployability as well as to ensure the protection of the southeastern borders of the Alliance as specified in the North Atlantic Treaty, the exercise was held with the participation of some 1,000 personnel. Its successful implementation is also credited to the host nation support provided by Hungary.
