Defence innovation helps security

Brigadier General Dr. Imre Porkoláb hopes that more and better-capitalized Hungarian companies will apply for this year’s grants of the European Defence Fund (EDF) than before. Speaking at a professional workshop organized for the representatives of large enterprises in Budapest, the MoD ministerial commissioner for defence innovation said that he hoped that Hungarian companies would undertake to become lead members of applicant consortia.

Critical Infrastructure Protection with military aid

There can be no national cyber security strategy without military cyber security strategy – this was stated at the 5th International Conference on Central European Critical Infrastructure Protection (ICCECIP) in Budapest. On 13 and 14 November, scientific professionals from ten countries were discussing current issues in their field of specialization during the event co-organized by the Óbuda University Bánki Donát Faculty of Mechanical and Safety Engineering and the Hungarian Defence Forces Cyber Operations Command (HDF COC).

Hungarian Defence Forces conduct complex exercise to strengthen country defence

Speaking in the program “Napi Aktuális” of Hungarian television channel Hír TV on the day of starting the multinational countrywide Exercise Adaptive Hussars 2023, General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the HDF General Staff said that during this exercise – the largest one in Hungary over the past 30 years – the Hungarian Defence Forces are mobilizing their reserve as well. In accordance with NATO plans, they are training for military operations that involve Alliance forces stationed in Hungary, and are cooperating with Hungarian civil administration to test its capabilities and level of preparedness.

NATO Air Traffic Management Advisors meet in Hungary

Drawing a great interest, the NATO Air Traffic Management CNS Advisory Group is holding its 2023 autumn meeting with the participation of air navigation experts from 22 nations in Budapest on 5-6 October. Having accepted our country’s offer, the group is meeting outside the Brussels headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance for the first time in its history.

Hungarian-Omani joint committee set up

On 15 June, the Hungarian–Omani Economic and Technical Joint Committee held its first plenary session in Budapest. The committee was co-chaired during the event by MoD Parliamentary State Secretary, Deputy Defence Minister Tamás Vargha and Sheik Khalifa bin Ali bin Issa Al-Harthy, Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman.

Hungarian personnel perform excellently

The Hungarian air force is participating in NATO’s largest ever air deployment exercise in Germany between 12-23 June. During Air Defender 2023, 10,000 personnel from 25 nations are practicing air operations in European airspace with 250 aircraft in the spirit of transatlantic solidarity. The Hungarian Defence Forces are present at the international training event with five JAS 39 Gripen fighters and 48 airmen.

Hungarian Chief of Defence attends NATO session

On 18–19 January, leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the representatives of Finland and Sweden held a two-day meeting of the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The event was attended by Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD, Chief of the HDF General Staff, who also met the Hungarian soldiers serving in Belgium and gave them recognitions.
