The ministries of defence of Hungary and Poland signed a bilateral military cooperation agreement on 19 January in Budapest. On behalf of the Hungarian side, Colonel László Hajnik, Head of Department for International Cooperation, Ministry of Defence, and, on behalf of the Polish side, Polish Defence Attaché Colonel Tomasz Trzciński signed the agreement of cooperation.

On 12–13 January, defence ministers of the European Union met in Brest, France at an opening event of the French EU presidency to discuss threats to Europe and the further strengthening of European defence. Hungary was represented at the meeting by Defence Minister Tibor Benkő.

On Thursday, 6 January Defence Minister Dr. Tibor Benkő received in his office H. E. Mohamed El Shinawy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Budapest.
