Four World Championship Medals and Presidential Thanks

Hungarian military athletes won a total of one gold and three bronze medals at the 49th CISM World Military Fencing Championship held in Veszprém. The closing ceremony of the four-day world competition, which ended on October 1, was held in Balatonakarattya, where Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), said thanks for the professional organization and management of the World Championship.

Corporal Flóra Pásztor won a bronze medal at the 49th CISM World Military Fencing Championship. The foil fencer from the HDF Sports Company outclassed her two Polish opponents with a confident performance, but lost the bout to Italy’s Carlotta Ferrari in the semi-final, securing third place on the podium. On Wednesday, the third day of the World Championship, the men's foil team finished in the 6th place, the women's epeé team in the 7th, while Private First Class Gergő Horváth finished 17th in the men's sabre event.

The soldiers of the 35th Contingent of the Hungarian Defence Forces KFOR, including the personnel of the KFOR Tactical Reserve Battalion (KTRBN)— were assigned complex Crowd Riot Control (CRC) and tactical tasks during the Full Mission Capability (FMC) assessment. The troops were tested to verify that they are fully prepared to carry out peacekeeping tasks and handle unexpected situations.

The individual competition has come to an end for the male military épée fencers at the 49th CISM World Military Fencing Championship. On Tuesday morning, the women’s épée fencers and the men’s foil fencers took to the piste, while in the afternoon the men’s épée team will arrive at the Veszprém One Arena.

After 246 kilometers: Sparta

Nearly 400 participants, including 25 Hungarians. 246 kilometers. Two Hungarian soldiers crossed the finish line. Colonel Attila Hadi and Sergeant First Class Emil Spisák both reached the statue of King Leonidas, completing the legendary distance between Athens and Sparta.

The 49th CISM World Military Fencing Championship kicked off in Veszprém on September 28, 2026, with the men’s individual épée competition. On Monday, Lieutenant Gergely Siklósi, Captain András Rédli, Corporal Levente Buta and Corporal József Tamás will take to the piste.
