Hungarian soldiers serving in KFOR, NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo successfully completed the multinational military strength and endurance competitions held at Camp Novo Selo.

The heptathlon, called the Wolverine Challenge and organized by the Latvian and Polish contingents—which consisted of truck pulling, water balloon carrying, bench press, squats, pull-ups, and a 2-kilometer relay race—as well as the Polish Military Combat Competition—lived up to their reputations once again this year. As part of the latter event, soldiers had to complete a 2-kilometer obstacle course that included rolling a tractor tire and carrying a simulated casualty. These competitions, in which the 34th rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces’ KFOR Contingent also participated, rank among the most demanding physical challenges in the area of operations year after year.

This year, the fast-paced series of tasks once again demanded maximum effort, high levels of endurance, and speed from the participants. The events placed the soldiers under extraordinary pressure, both physically and mentally.

According to the rules, the tasks had to be performed in battle dress uniforms; and during the PMCC participants also had to wear full combat gear and carry weapons, which further increased the strain in the summer heat.

Despite the fast pace, the competitors carried out the tasks with discipline throughout, demonstrating their perseverance and preparedness. At the same time, the atmosphere remained positive: team members constantly encouraged and supported one another in overcoming the challenges. As a result of their high level of preparation, several Hungarian soldiers set personal records in the most difficult weightlifting events, including the squat and the bench press.

In addition to assessing individual and unit-level capabilities, international competitions of this nature play a key role in fostering cooperation among allied forces. Carrying out these joint tasks further strengthened the camaraderie and military cohesion among KFOR nations.
