International Half Marathon in Kosovo

What began as a personal tribute to the memory of a mother grew into one of the largest sporting events of the KFOR mission: the “Hungarian Statehood Day Run.” The idea of Warrant Officer Zsolt Matolcsi eventually brought together more than one hundred soldiers in Kosovo, while the organiser himself completed the half-marathon distance on a challenging course featuring several climbs, finishing well within his target time. As his deployment draws to a close, we spoke with Warrant Officer Matolcsi about his personal motivation, the behind-the-scenes challenges of organising the event, preparing for the race alongside his military duties, and his experiences during the mission.

HDF KFOR 34th Rotation at the FMC Evaluation

The soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces (HDF) KFOR Contingent 34th rotation, who arrived in early March, have successfully completed their Full Mission Capability (FMC) evaluation. The results of the exercise confirm that the troops are ready to execute mission tasks and are prepared to handle unexpected situations quickly and effectively.

Recognition for Hungarian soldiers serving in Kosovo

Lieutenant Colonel András Szabó, the commander of KFOR Camp Novo Selo and First Lieutenant Balázs Szilágyi, a coordination officer at the HDF Joint Effects Analysis Center recently received medals for international cooperation. The recognitions of the Slovenian Ministry of Defence were presented at the handover-takeover ceremony of the Slovenian contingent serving in Kosovo.

Commemoration Far from the Homeland

Hungarian soldiers serving in the NATO KFOR mission also commemorated the events of 1956. The commemoration was also attended by Béla Bozsik, Hungary’s ambassador to Kosovo, and Colonel Dr. Norbert Mohácsi, Commander of Camp Novo Selo. Following the speeches of the ambassador and First Lieutenant Zoltán Máthé, military chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel Tibor Dancs, Commander of the 31st rotation of the HDF KFOR Contingent, handed over tokens of appreciations to the soldiers during the ceremony.
