Organized by the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) of the U.S. Embassy in Budapest and the Hungarian Defence Forces, military bloggers and photographers had the opportunity to closely follow the 12 AH-64E helicopters attacking in turns 10 targets on the shooting range with rockets and 30 mm chain guns. During the practice flights and the punctual execution of tasks, the participating servicemembers felt the attention directed towards them by the 10–15 cameramen in the observation tower.
“It is important to show that we are here and we can be counted on if needed”, said an exercise participant, Warrant Officer 1 Kathryn Johnston, U.S. Army Apache Pilot, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, who was not bothered by the presence of the press during the exercise. Moreover, from her and her comrades, a salute, smile or wave always went to the gathered members of the press when flying by the tower.
As part of the series of exercises Defender 25, organised by the United States Army Europe and Africa Command (USAREUR-AF), Exercise Saber Guardian 2025 is being held with the participation of 1400 American, 800 Hungarian and 450 Spanish servicemembers in Hungary between 6 and 24 June.
