Lieutenant General Zsolt Sándor was received by Lieutenant Colonel Róbert Szabó, Hungary’s deputy senior national representative at HQ JFCBS, who reported to the general on the personnel serving abroad. After the report, Lieutenant General Sándor attended the change of command ceremony.
During the ceremony, General Jörg Vollmer handed over the command responsibilities of Headquarters JFC Brunssum to General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta.
As the culmination of his more than 44 years in service, General Vollmer has been the commander of NATO’s Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum since April 2020. As one of the two operational-level commands directly subordinated to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), HQ JFCBS is primarily responsible for the security of Western European NATO member states.
During the military ceremony, Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Tod D. Wolters thanked General Vollmer for his work, and, referring to the situation in Ukraine, pointed out that he had been successfully leading HQ JFC Brunssum in an extremely complex and changing security environment over the last period. In what followed, he wished the outgoing commander many happy years in retirement, and the incoming commander every success with his work.
Following the ceremony, Lieutenant General Sándor had a discussion with Lieutenant General Lorenzo D’Addario, Commander of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy, and also with German Deputy Chief of Defence Major General Markus Laubenthal about his planned visit to Hungary in the near future.
