The German-Hungarian bilateral Exercise Safety Transport 2024 has successfully ended. The soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces and the Bundeswehr transported more than 20 containers from Grafenwöhr, Germany to the HDF 47th Air Base in Pápa, Hungary, where they were successfully unloaded on 29 April.

Since 2015, the two nations annually organize their joint transportation exercise, but this year’s one was different. As the German-Hungarian Medium Transport Company achieved full operational capability (FOC) in 2023, instead of acting in a fictitious scenario, its personnel were tasked with carrying out a Real Life Support (RLS) mission in the interest of promoting and supporting another international event, namely Exercise Swift Response.

During Exercise Safety Transport conducted between 19 and 29 April, container shipments were gathered from five different venues in Germany and concentrated in Grafenwöhr Training Area, from where they were transported to Hungary via Czechia and Slovakia with the help of 29 vehicles. Although the MOS personnel were drawn from the Hungarian HDF 2nd Sustainment Regiment and from the German 472nd Logistic Battalion of the Bundeswehr Logistics Command, representatives of Czechia and Croatia also participated in the exercise in observer status in order to acquire the joint transportation capability and to consider potential future cooperation.

After the final phase of Exercise Safety Transport 2024, the Hungarian and the German participants equally stated that the cooperation was easy and smooth. “The Germans are very good to work with, they are flexible and helpful, so we formed a very good team during transportation and also during the skill retention training events conducted in Grafenwöhr, among others the joint live fire training as well”, said Sergeant Patrik Faludy. Lieutenant Ákos Pap also pointed out that the cooperation between the two nations is getting better year by year, and they complement each other’s strong points.
